11/25/2023 0 Comments Van gogh postman paintingIn the last days of December 1901, running through January 1902, Bruno Cassirer and his cousin Paul Cassirer organized the first van Gogh exhibition in Berlin, Germany. The project consists of a complete annotated collection of letters written by and to Vincent. Jan Hulsker suggested, in 1987, that the letters be organized in date order, and undertaking that began in 1994 when the Van Gogh Letter Project was initiated by the Van Gogh Museum. That first edition consisted of three volumes, and was followed in 1952–1954 by a four-volume edition that included additional letters. Johanna began the task of completing the collection, which was published in full in January 1914. Within two years both brothers were dead: Vincent as the result of a gunshot wound, and Theo from illness. Theo van Gogh's wife, Johanna van Gogh-Bonger, devoted many years to compiling the letters about which she wrote: "When as Theo's young wife I entered in 1889, our flat in the Cité Pigalle in Paris, I found at the bottom of a small desk a drawer full of letters from Vincent". Vincent (left), photographed in 1873, Theo (middle) in 1878, and Johanna in 1889. The letters effectively play much the same role in shedding light on the art of the period as those between the de Goncourt brothers do for literature. The only two periods when the public is relatively uninformed are the Parisian period, during which they shared an apartment and had no need to correspond, and a one-year gap in the correspondence from 1879 to 1880, when they had temporarily fallen out over Vincent's career choice. Nevertheless, it is to these letters between the brothers that is owed much of what is known today about Vincent van Gogh. Arnold Pomerans, editor of a 1966 selection of the letters, wrote that Theo "was the kind of man who saved even the smallest scrap of paper", and it is to this trait that the public owes the 663 letters from Vincent.īy contrast, Vincent infrequently kept letters sent to him and just 84 have survived, of which 39 were from Theo. Johanna van Gogh-Bonger, the wife of Vincent's brother Theo, spent many years after her husband's death in 1891 compiling the letters, which were first published in 1914. The collection also includes letters van Gogh wrote to his sister Wil and other relatives, as well as between artists such as Paul Gauguin, Anthon van Rappard, and Émile Bernard. More than 650 of these were from Vincent to his brother Theo. The Letters of Vincent van Gogh is a collection of 903 surviving letters written (820) or received (83) by Vincent van Gogh. I've painted it on a fairly large canvas, and as the sketch is now, I believe there's life in it." He was currently working on the painting, which was to become one of his first complex compositions with multiple figures, and illustrated the letter with a sketch of the work, writing "See, this is what the composition has now become. Provenance Sent by the artist from Arles to his brother Theo van Gogh, Paris, at the end of April 1889 after his death on 25 January 1891, inherited by his widow, Jo van Gogh-Bonger, and their son, Vincent Willem van Gogh, Paris administered until her death on 2 September 1925 by Jo van Gogh-Bonger, Bussum/Amsterdam/Laren given on loan by Vincent Willem van Gogh, Laren to the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, since 16 December 1930 transferred by Vincent Willem van Gogh on 10 July 1962 to the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, Amsterdam agreement concluded between the Vincent van Gogh Foundation and the State of the Netherlands, in which the preservation and management of the collection, and its placing in the Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh, to be realized in Amsterdam, is entrusted to the State, 21 July 1962 given on loan until the opening of the museum on 2 June 1973 to the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam on permanent loan to the Rijksmuseum Vincent van Gogh from 2 June 1973 and at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, since 1 July 1994.Collection of letters written and received by Vincent van Gogh In April 1885, Vincent wrote his brother about his first masterpiece, The Potato Eaters.

11/25/2023 0 Comments The plucky squire nintendo switchIt’s already got a charming art style in its storybook and the characters and world therein. The Plucky Squire is a pretty amusing-looking adventure. The game was confirmed for a 2023 release window on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam (where can also be added to wishlists now). Where it seemingly begins as a top-down action-adventure akin to Zelda, it doesn’t take long for the trailer to take some interesting turns as it bends genres, employing mechanics such as what looks like JRPG battles, Punch-Out!! fights, and much more. Players take on the role of the titular squire that goes on an adventure to save their friends. The Plucky Squire appeared during Devolver Digital Marketing Countdown to Marketing 2022 livestream on June 9, 2022. This is an action-adventure title from developer All Possible Futures and being published by Devolver Digital and the game will be coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC in 2023. Devolver Digitals had all sorts of fun and bizarre game reveals to show in its Countdown to Marketing 2022 showcase, but one of the more chipper amusements among its bunch of reveals was The Plucky Squire. Love games that stray from the beaten path? You'll love our list of the best new indie games. The Plucky Squire is set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2023. From the character names to the plot and the magical shift between styles and dimensions, I can hardly wait to jump into the adventure myself and recapture the magic of a storybook coming to life before me, with a character who quite literally jumps off of the page. There were plenty of memorable trailers that debuted during the not-E3 season, but no game has stayed on my mind quite like The Plucky Squire. It can't be easy to learn you're a villain out of book to begin with, but knowing you're fated to fail? Well, you can understand why he might be eager to rewrite his own destiny. Upon realizing he's the villain of the storybook who's destined to lose, Humgrump forces Jot out of the pages and tries to change the story. In the adventure, we'll be solving puzzles and taking on mini-challenges as we try to save our friends from Humgrump. As our first look so far, there's only so much we can speculate on in terms of how the game functions, but the synopsis provided by the devs has definitely piqued my interest. The Plucky Squire appears to really capture the childlike wonder of storybooks, tapping into the daydreams that powered my younger years. As soon as I clapped eyes on the shift between worlds, I was completely enchanted by this game's concept. Playing a character in a storybook was already enough to sell me on the idea of The Plucky Squire, but as Jot suddenly leapt from the corner of a page and into the 3D world outside of the book, then I became really interested. The colorful illustrations that come alive draw you in as the plucky little fellow fights an oversized, honey-fisted badger, and runs across a series of different landscapes. Brought to life with a delightful artstyle, we see the ways Jot can complete sentences to build bridges, and how words on the page describe what's happening. Inviting us into a bedroom, we're first introduced to Jot, a storybook hero who journeys across pages in the form of a wonderful, intuitive-looking 2D platformer. Since it was officially announced during the Devolver Digital showcase back in June, I've lost count of the number of times I've watched Plucky Squire's debut trailer. 11/25/2023 0 Comments Is google earth pro freeOther features allow users to view photos from various places uploaded to Panoramio, information provided by Wikipedia on some locations, and Street View imagery. Like the prequel, My Time at Sandrock will base most of its gameplay around a traditional open world sandbox formula. Gather resources to build machines, befriend locals, and defend Sandrock from monsters - all while saving the town from economic ruin!” Gameplay In Pathea Games' own words: “After accepting a job offer to become Sandrock’s newest Builder, you’ll arrive in the wild and rugged city-state, where it’s up to you and your trusty tools to restore the community to its former glory. Sound familiar? Well, as it turns out, the premise isn't all that different from My Time at Portia, to be fair. As a builder, you will venture out to the dusty region and restore it to its former glory. My Time at Sandrock will whisk you away to the post-apocalyptic town of Sandrock, a world that's void of technology due to an earth-shattering event known as the Day of Calamity. So, to put it short, in order to make ends meet in the town of Sandrock, you'll need to be the jack-of-all-trades a dabbler of sorts, but a master in no particular field. What's more, you'll need to develop lifelong friendships, and even serve as the community's one true defender against its unruly monsters. “Use your trusty toolset to gather resources, construct machines, and turn your run-down workshop into a well-oiled production facility to save the town from the jaws of economic ruin!”Ī sandbox game at heart, Sandrock will encourage you to unlock your inner creative and craft, build, and evolve till your heart's content. “Travel to the desert community of Sandrock and take on the role of a fledgling Builder,” the Steam description reads. As such, you will be tasked with breathing life into old ruins, and essentially transforming a post-apocalyptic dust ball into a bustling haven for like-minded and wholesome folk. My Time at Sandrock is a life and farming simulation game by Pathea Games, the same team that brought us 2019's My Time at Portia. Like the first instalment, the world of Sandrock will invite you to collect your toolbox and assume the role of a builder in a run-down desert town. My Time at Sandrock: what is it, and when can we expect to see it finally grace the system? What Is My Time at Sandrock? But if you're wondering what needs to be heard ahead of its eventual summer release, then be sure to read on. What's better is that it's even available to play today, providing you don't mind skipping out on a few components, that is.Īnyway, if all goes according to plan, then technically, My Time at Sandrock should launch in Q3 2023. And it's about time, too, what with developer Pathea Games having kept it under wraps for the best part of three years. My Time at Sandrock is on the verge of shedding its early access skin and becoming a full-fledged life simulation game on consoles and PC. 11/25/2023 0 Comments Europa universalis iv online“I can invite France to a channel, and say ‘Let’s forget our squabbles. Custom, private, IRC-like chat windows will also appear to allow you to plot with your fellow leaders. There’s also standalone servers you can host on your machine and get other people to connect to it. Up to 32 players can join a game, and the team has developed something called “Hot Joins” which will allow a player to arrive late into the game after it has started. In order to bring multiplayer to EU4, Paradox has added a bunch of features. “You can’t let the other guys go to lunch without you, because who knows what they are going to be plotting?” he asked, very seriously. My idea is much better.'” It’s great to see a so-called intellectual strategy game breed such paranoia. You see these people having heated discussions, but it’s not about game design, it’s about asking ‘Why did you go to war with me? Why did you ally with him? He’s obviously going to backstab you. “It’s fun to see what happens to the office atmosphere when you play. “About fifteen guys in the office have been playing,” said Thomas Johansson, lead designer of EU4. From veteran EU designer Johan Anderssen to the lowliest intern, everyone at the Paradox Development Studio is playing EU4 against each other and the stories they tell about the backstabbing and political machinations are wildly entertaining. The code for EU4 is largely complete now so the team has been doing almost nothing but playing multiplayer matches against each other to test it out and fine tune the mechanics. What’s that you’re saying? How can one of the most engrossing and time-consuming singleplayer games translate to a multiplayer setting? I don’t exactly know myself, but somehow setting the game’s speed at a leisurely pace and connecting to 7 other journalists in a LAN setup – very easily and seamlessly I might add, the network code Paradox employs through Steam was flawless – resulted in a tense, seesaw game with conflicts breaking out in Europe over trade rights and territorial desires. Multiplayer in Europa Universalis is cutthroat, vicious, and deliciously engaging. While the latest build doesn’t solve the interface issue – they still have to craft the tutorial or introduction – I was given a special chance to play EU4 in a way that will entice many players. Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester wants EU4 to be the “Strategy Game of the Year” so badly that he’s taken to jokingly referring to the project that way in his internal company meetings. In my last preview of Europa Universalis 4, I discussed how the interface is an obstacle the team must conquer if the franchise is ever going to find the success its strategy brethren like Civilization enjoys. How to make the masses care? Make the multiplayer, and they will come. 11/25/2023 0 Comments Platypus in zooGenerally, body size increases with latitude. There is considerable variation in size among platypus populations. The white spots on the fur under its eyes make it look like its eyes are open underwater, but they’re not. On land, the platypus has a reptilian gait because its legs are on the sides of the body, rather than underneath. Other interesting characteristics include extra bones in the shoulder girdle, which is absent in other mammals. While most other mammals have so-called live young, platypuses (along with echidnas) lay eggs, incubate them, and nurse their young. Of course, its major claim to fame is being an egg-laying mammal, or monotreme. Interestingly, freshly hatched platypuses have molar-like “milk teeth," but these are shed around the time they leave the nesting burrow. These pads are replaced continuously throughout its lifetime. They (and their relatives the echidnas) don’t have teeth, but instead grind their food between mouth pads made of keratin. Platypuses stow their prey in cheek pouches, and swim to the surface to eat. Moving its head back and forth, it can find prey nearby and swiftly move in for the kill. Additionally, about 40,000 electroreceptors help them find the direction and distance of prey (its eyes and ears are closed while it’s underwater) by detecting electrical impulses generated by living creatures. This strange-looking snout is laden with “pushrods” that respond to stimuli like touch, pressure, sound waves, and motion. It is dark colored, nearly black in contrast to its chocolate-colored coat. Its signature “duck bill” is actually soft and pliable, not hard like a duck’s bill at all. Its rear feet serve as rudders and brakes. Its plump tail serves as a stabilizer during swimming and stores extra fat for energy. While lumbering somewhat awkwardly on land to protect the webbing on its feet, they are sleek missiles in the water. Those big webbed feet help propel them through the water, and the claws make digging burrows a breeze. Mostly brown on its body, there’s a flash of white fur beneath its eyes, and its belly is lighter in color, too. Long guard hairs protect the dense fur underneath, which stays dry even after a platypus has been in the water for hours. Platypus fur is waterproof and traps an insulating layer of air to keep its body temperature stable, even in cold water. Their dense fur makes fine insulation, both in the water and out. While their range is just one small area of the world, they weather many climate extremes (and fresh water sources) from toasty plateaus and rainforests, to the chilly mountainous regions of Tasmania and the Australian Alps. At a glance, it looks like a hodgepodge of animal pieces stitched together: a paddle-shaped tail from an otter, a sleek body covered in dense, chestnut-colored fur like a mole, a wide, flat duck-like bill attached in front of its little round eyes, and big webbed feet like a pelican.Īll these characteristics come in handy for its freshwater lifestyle-that bizarre looking bill is laden with thousands of receptors that help a platypusl navigate the murky depths and detect tiny movements of potential food like shellfish or insects. The platypus is as fascinating on the inside as it is on the outside! Among Australia’s most iconic wildlife, this semi-aquatic, egg-laying species is also one of the few venomous mammals. 11/25/2023 0 Comments Home depot air compressorAir compressors that do not reach a max of 90 PSI will struggle to power pneumatic tools. You’d only need maximums beyond 150 PSI for jobs such as automotive repairs and industrial purposes. The most common air compressors available for DIY use offer a maximum PSI of 90 to 150 PSI. So, the higher the maximum PSI rating on a unit, the more air the container can hold within the tank without increasing the size of the tank. For example, a small 2-gallon air compressor tank rated for 150 PSI can hold as much air as a 3-gallon tank at 100 PSI. However, PSI offers an excellent indication of the output capacity of the air compressor. This measurement doesn’t come into play for most DIY projects, as these projects require less than the average maximum PSI of a low-end air compressor. Pounds per square inch, or PSI, measures the amount of pressure the air compressor can exert on a fully charged tank. So unless a DIYer needs continuous output from an air compressor, a lower-horsepower motor can get most jobs done. Most home air compressors only earn a horsepower rating of 0.7 HP to 1 HP-more than enough for nailing, drilling, ratcheting, and more. However, few home projects require a ton of horsepower. Some incredibly powerful air compressors boast horsepower measurements well above 1 or 2 HP, sometimes packing up to 5 or 6 HP. Recent mainstream models include 1- or 2-horsepower motors to meet the demands of continuous pneumatic tools, like paint sprayers or sanders. Horsepower may seem like an odd measurement for an air compressor, but it can be a critical one. However, professional framers and roofers benefit from the mobility and output of a gas-powered model. Most houses have available electrical outlets and don’t need the heavy-duty power of a gas air compressor. The choice between the two types depends on the intended use. Fortunately, most electric air compressors meet the HP, PSI, and CFM required for DIY tasks, such as fastening trim using a finish nailer. Significantly quieter than gas-powered air compressors, electric air compressors also put out significantly less power. They make for a smaller and much more mobile option, provided that an electrical source, like an outlet or generator, is available.
